Preferences not restored when loading saved project; cannot change them in saved Preferences window
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: SQ-1130
                 URL: http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-1130
             Project: squeakland
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: etoys
            Reporter: Edward Mokurai Cherlin

I am working with eToyFriendly off and debugHaloHandle on in Preferences in order to access material for writing the Etoys Reference Manual. I set these Preferences, arranged my Workspaces as desired, collapsed Preferences, closed browsers that I did not need, and saved my project.

1) When I load the project inside a freshly started Etoys, it comes up with eToyFriendly on and debugHaloHandle off. Is this intentional? I don't like it, and consider it a misfeature, but I can see how one might argue that it would protect naive users, at the cost of great mystification.

2) When this happens, clicking these preferences items in the current Preferences instance results in the check boxes changing, but not the behavior. This is unquestionably a bug.

I have not tested other Preferences to see which are effective in this state and which are not.

A workaround is to close Preferences and open a new instance. Then I can change preferences with effect.

Let me try it again, and test whether I can save preferences and reload them with proper effect. It turns out, however, that I cannot. This option is not available in Preferences with eToyFriendly on.
